HOW TO MEMORIZE LYRICS/CHORDS FASTER

If you're just like me who needs to memorize tons of lyrics or a script maybe for some artist, maybe you've face problems just like me. MEMORY BLOCK. Due to overdoing it multiple times and pressuring yourself to memorize it faster as you could, your mind freezes rather than working. But how can we memorize a certain words faster. I will share some tips that helps me to overcome Memory Block.

1. SING WITH THE MUSIC TOGETHER

FOR THE LYRICS

Get your lyrics ahead of time. You need to know the songs melody, how the lyrics flows with it and start to memorize it. Choose whatever your most comfortable copy you have (Hard or Soft copy). While the music play, you can sing with it many times you want. The good thing about it, you will notice that repeating the music along side that you are actually singing it, the lyrics itself is now easy to be memorize and remember. I tried before to memorize some songs without playing the song itself. I felt so bored and helpless. For some reason my mind can't no longer remember the lyrics. Then i decided to sing it while i am holding my own lyric copy. Surprisingly it really works! Without noticing that i hit two target at the same time (the right melody and the lyric).

FOR THE CHORDS

This can be done like i said above. I usually pick the chords ahead of time, study it for a while and play it several times while the music plays along with me. This will surely helps if you are a beginner. I study 1 song first then i remember that my hands got callouses eventually, but i didn't regret it. I was able to train myself with only one song and the strumming and memorizing the chords went well. This may takes more time rather than memorizing the lyrics. More or less 3 days for beginner but an hour maybe for me now lol! Kidding aside, i am not a professional one hence this tips that i shared was based on my personal experience.

2. TAKE A SHORT BREAK

When you feel tired and your starting to have a headache, it not wrong to take a break. I remember the times that i memorizing the song "Sucker by Jonas Brothers" this song made me cry literally. I am practicing it many many times. The pressure makes it worst because i needed to memorize the chords, right strumming and the lyrics at the same time. The fact that it was hurting my mind while singing it is no fun no more. I had to admit that i wanted to quit that song and change for other songs in my next cover session. Then i took a break, relax my hands and mind and rest! I told myself that i can do it SLOWLY but SURELY. After few hours of resting, i try to practice it again and i got it. I thought i couldn't really make it but i did. Sometimes we put pressure on ourselves to do it faster but if you feel tired there's no wrong to take a break and rest to have a better brain function.

3. WRITE IT ON A SHEET OF PAPER AS EXAM

This is optional, but i knew that writing will help you to exercise you memorization. Write all that you remember with that certain song and you will notice what you did not remember.

For the lyrics of you had missed some words just leave it blank (like fill in the blanks) in that way you can test yourself and back again to answer that blanks. For the chords i usually do it with the lyrics first. After writing the lyrics down, i will sing that song and easily put the right chords in every lyrics. Sounds so easy right? In some scenario, what i did is to get my guitar and play it with the song and this is much easier because this is actual testing on how you memorize it.

Disclaimer: Again, i am not professional all that i write in this blog of mine is ALL BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE. I do know that OUR EXPERIENCE STILL THE BEST WAY TO TEACH US! I hope it will help you along the way.
