There are tons of misconception about doing a Song Cover. When i give it a first try, it seem like it was easy, but i am wrong. As i remember the very first month that we (with my fiancè) started to upload song covers, there are certain issues that we faced and it can happen to anyone. Here are some of it.
1. Copyright Claim Issues:
Based on our own understanding, copyright claim can only be done to someone who remake a song exactly the original artist does. So for the first time we faced this kind of copyrighted material claimed. We thought that doing a cover song if we make it our own style and tempo, that would make a difference.
In Youtube, there are 2 Types of how Copyright Claim detected: Auto Detect and Manual Detect. I have one that was detected manualy after several months since we uploaded it. For that matter, we just deleted that video and very upset. But that's the reality. They own it ( by the artitst/ record label management ) For more info about auto and manual detect, you can search for it on google, i will not be discussing it here.
We've searched on and learned that copyrighted materials such as music are not enough to just put on your video description this lines. "No Copyright Infringement Intended". Because it has a license to be legalized used their work. A short sounds and lyrics from a song can be detected. That's the sad truth about it. But for some issues about music background, there are some free to use music background for your content. It's up to you what you choose and it depends on your content.
Tips:
• You must learn first, the law of copyrighted material. Google is free we can learn a lot without asking or seeking for legal consultant.
• Not all copyrighted claim will affect your channel.
• If you already have a copyright claim, don't delete that video specially when it has a lot of views already. You can still be monetized and get revenue from it. (50/50 basis)
